Daddy/Daughter Breakfast 14JAN2012

sketches done at breakfastFriday nights I host an art party at the studio. We call it Midnight at Oasis.  Not only do a bunch of artists gather to art and snack, but we do a quick interview at midnight.  There will be another post about that. I tell you that so that you can see why it was 3 am when I got home from the studio this morning.  I set my alarm for 9.  My wife comes in at 8:30 and asks if I am going to breakfast with the little girl.  I quietly tell her that the alarm is set for 9.  Boy2 climbs up on the bed and snuggles down under the covers with me, saying, “hide hide”.  They play a round of peek-a-boo (he really is the WORST hider ever), while Girl2 snuggles under the covers behind me and reminds me it’s Daddy/Daughter Breakfast Day.  As if I would EVER forget that.  She sits on the edge of the bed and asks me if I’m ready to get up.  I quietly tell her that I will get up when the alarm goes off at 9. “Dad?”, she says, “Daddy, it’s 8:56… 8:57… Daddy, it’s 8:58… 8:59…” When the alarm goes off she starts giggling and tells me that it is OK for me to get up now.  Of course it is.  I wouldn’t miss this for the world.

5 Minute Nudes Jan02-Jan08

NUDITY ALERT!
Duh!
I am spending 5 minutes a day practicing drawing naked ladies nude figures. This is part of my #100DaysArt process where I pick something to practice for 100 days in a row.  Here are the 5 minute nudes for the week of January 02, 2012 through January 08, 2012

All of the previous 5 minute nudes may be found in the Gallery under 5 minute nudes.

A Brief Note 08JAN2012

Hello Peoples!

Good news! With the holidays over, everyone can get back to their normal schedules and the wife and kids and my mom will be back on the show regularly.  Bad news is that with the holidays over everyone has to go back to their normal schedules with no real time off until , what, May? Oh well, there’s always vacation and sick leave, right?  Here’s hoping anyway.

This weekend was spent moving my mom’s shop all the way across town and getting TONS of behind the scenes crap done on the website.  Payday is still 6 days away so the budget’s a bit thin yet to purchase any new building materials.  Even better than that is our roof on our house is now leaking if there’s so much as a fog.  My new Sunday morning hobby will be replacing the roof one 4 x 8 panel at a time.  o.O

This time of year we are ALL severely limited on fundage so we may be building with used pallets.  If you would like to help with that, you can go to artisticbiker.com and look for the DONATE button on the right side column and donate what you can.  If you can’t do that, please share this newsletter with everyone you know to help get the word out.  That helps more than you know.  Or better yet, Click Here to Join! artisticbiker.com/membership and help promote the arts in rural Oklahoma.

If you have any announcements you would like made in the newsletter or tweeted about incessantly, drop me a line and I’ll toot your horn for ya.  ;)  There were no announcements this week.

Drawing Class: Daily Practice or Pick Something And Just Freakin’ Draw It – Tuesday night 6pm central.  This week, we’ll go over what you should be getting out of your practice drawing and sources for subject matter.  Answers to the age old question, “But what should I draw?”

Painting Class: Painting class is on hold until the wife and I can come up with a solid lesson plan I can be proud of.  Look for it to return sometime in February.

The past classes are moving into the Pay-per-view side of ustream and on artisticbiker.com as well. $2 lets you view them online at Ustream, $5 lets you download them at artisticbiker.com, and a $10/month membership gets you unlimited downloads from the site.

Tips & Tricks 08JAN2012

Last week’s tip of using ammonia to reclaim acrylic brushes that had been left with paint to dry got several comments back that Murphy’s Oil Soap works very well.  I have not tried that, but I appreciate the feedback!

This week’s tip comes from Jerry’s Artarama: When you want to make thin, straight lines in your work, use a pizza cutter.  That sounds fascinatingly simple to me so I’ll have to give it a shot.  Do you have a tip for making thin straight lines?  Let me know and I’ll share it with everyone else.

Art Journaling Mr. Clean and The Buddha

Art Journal page

What a FUN night we had! The theme for the night was a clean slate, but that didn’t really have much bearing on the show.  Girl2 painted alongside, Boy2 played with blocks and danced, My Beautiful, Young Bride gave us an update on the happenings in her class room and my mum rejoined us as producer.  It was truly awesome!

Wanted to start the new year of videos with a clean slate. Mr. Clean and The Buddha share a common goal of clearing clutter!
