I have been prepping a lot of canvases to paint more. When I can’t think of anything to paint, when nothing else moves me, I am going to paint a rooster. It is the year of the cock in the Chinese zodiac so that is my motivation. Painting big…. roosters. Ba-KAWK!

The Artistic Biker is a blunt force journey through the art world and art journaling. If Bob Ross, Red Green and Justin Wilson had a love child, it would be The Artistic Biker!
Each week I produce The Artistic Biker Live! on Ustream, then upload the edited videos here. There’s usually a brief beginners art tutorial, and then I demonstrate the technique, and then practical application of the lesson in my art journal. I use everything from graphite pencil and charcoal, watercolors, acrylics, spraypaint, I’ve even used valentine’s candy. So what are you waiting for? SUBSCRIBE ALREADY! http://goo.gl/NyELT

Evil Gall Bladder Is Evil!

A couple of weeks ago my beautiful, young bride’s gall bladder decided to ASPLODE! OK, it didn’t really blow up, but it did end us up in the hospital for an emergency gall bladder… ectomy?  Anyway, it’s gone now and she has fully recovered.  But we still did a page and a video about it.

This ain’t Mardi Gras, it’s Jeudi Gras!

Art journal entry for Jeudi Gras

The Lenten season is upon us and even though I’m not Catholic (or any of the other faiths that lend themselves to Lenten behavior) my wife is. That makes my kids Catholic by proxy.  That means we are all expected to make sacrifices or commitments for Lent.  As difficult as it is, I will once again be giving up celibacy and sobriety for Lent.  Those of you who have been around for a while know this is an annual event for me.

Art Journaling Stuffy Head

Stuffy Head

We’ve been having 18F mornings and 70F afternoons.  All the constant going from cold to hot to cold wreaks havoc on my immune system.  Then you take the NyQuil or DayQuil or any other sinus medicine and you feel like your head is floating and stuffed up.  UGH!  Anyway, that’s what I talked about on the show this week.

Art Journaling You Otter

Art Journal page painting of an otter

I have been receiving several messages lately telling me what I ought to do with my art.  It got me thinking over the past few years of being online just how many people have offered me unsolicited, and at times seeming mean spirited, advice.  You should know that even these e-mails center around the fact that I am free to do what I want in my journal.  I usually listen to the advice then do what I want anyway.

Tragedy struck about 10 minutes into the show this week as Boy2 discovered a Japanese fishing float that my mother brought back from Hawaii 30 years ago.  If you’re not familiar, these are glass balls made in Japan that break free from the fishing nets and float out to sea.  Many of them float for dozens of years before washing ashore.  He picked it up and tried to bounce it before anyone could get to him.  It’s just stuff, though.  We enjoyed it for a long time.
