5 Minute Nudes Feb13-Feb19

NUDITY ALERT! Duh! I am spending 5 minutes a day practicing drawing naked ladies nude figures. This is part of my #100DaysArt process where I pick something to practice for 100 days in a row.  Here are the 5 minute nudes for the week of February 13, 2012 through February 19, 2012. All of the previous 5 minute nudes may be found in the Gallery under 5 minute nudes.

A Brief Note 19FEB2012

Hello Peoples!

WooHoo! The display panels in the gallery have all been sanded and the wainscoting has been cut for installation.  Then stain the floor and a slick coat of paint and the gallery will be done!  It would not have been possible without your generous donations.  Keep spreading the word and we[‘ll keep fighting.

Drawing class will be from 7-8p central time for the foreseeable future.  I find that when I have drawing class at 6, I not only have to leave the day job early to get everything set up in time, but I don’t get home in time to play with my babies.  This way, Artmom can swing ’em by the studio prior to class and we can share a McNugget Happy Meal.

The day job has me out of town traveling again this week so I don’t know if there will be an Artistic Biker Live! on Thursday.  Be sure and follow me on twitter @BladeTheArtist for any updates in that regard.

We need topics and interviewees for Midnight at Oasis.  The topics can be any subject: politics, religion, sex, environment.  The only requirement is that they have to be related back to creativity.  For instance: how have world economic pressures affected your ability to find time to art?  I’ve started a Facebook group here: http://www.facebook.com/groups/382982991728276/ so go join up and suggest topics.  We’ll set up a poll to vote and interview people over Skype.

This time of year we are ALL severely limited on fundage so we may be building with used pallets.  If you would like to help with that, you can go to artisticbiker.com and look for the DONATE button on the right side column and donate what you can.  If you can’t do that, please share this newsletter with everyone you know to help get the word out.  That helps more than you know.  Or better yet, Click Here to Join! artisticbiker.com/membership and help promote the arts in rural Oklahoma.

If you have any announcements you would like made in the newsletter or tweeted about incessantly, drop me a line and I’ll toot your horn for ya.  ;)  There were no announcements this week.

I’m going to keep the same password for a while so the password is: arting

Tips & Tricks 19FEB2012

When drawing or painting, try to work from the top corner opposite your dominate hand to the lower corner of your dominant hand.  I’m right handed so I SHOULD start my drawings from the upper left and work across and top to bottom right.  Also, you could use a piece of paper or a dowel rod to rest your hand on if you need to work an area that has already been worked on.  This would keep me from smudging my drawings as often as I do, and possibly keep me from dragging paint everywhere.    I won’t go into how this came up this week, just trust me.  How’s that Beatle’s song go? IIIIIIIIIIIII should’ve known better….

Daddy-Daughter Breakfast 18FEB2012

Daddy/Daughter Breakfast Sketches
We didn’t get our usual spot at the bar this week. However, our table gave me a neat view of the architecture surrounding the cash register.  As I don’t usually draw stuff like that, I thought I’d take a stab at it.  Girl2 was inspired to draw a bird with a worm.

Fashion Maven
My little fashion maven loves the bright colors and the pink!  Everyone thinks this is adorable now. I used to get made fun of for wearing practically this same outfit in high school.  It was the ’80s.  It was in style then.

The Classroom 14FEB2012

Negative Spaces

This week in the classroom we talked about negative spaces.  Negative space the area not occupied by your subject.  You try to only see the shape made by where your subject isn’t.  Dede (@inkiwell) aptly described it as drawing the air around you subject.  This is not to be confused with a silhouette. A silhouette is the outer perimeter of your subject drawn as a shape.  If you cut the silhouette out, you will be left with the negative space.  This is a handy tool to help understand better some part of your subject that might be confusing to the eye.  For instance, if you are having difficulty with the perspective of the rails of a bar stool, focusing on the negative space will trick your eye into seeing what’s going on.
