  • Oklahoma Aquarium

    Yesterday, I mentioned the the girls and I went to the Oklahoma Aquarium.  I did these ink sketches while wandering around, and I colored them this evening.  I uploaded them for today’s Thing-a-day.  This is one of those gray areas because I didn’t do the whole thing today, but I spent about an hour adding color…  Maybe I’m reading too much into this.

    The EDM challenge tonight was to draw a bicycle, or part of one.  I’m going to have to start looking at these challenges earlier in the day.  When it’s already dark outside, I can’t really go out and draw my bicycle, or even my motorcycle.  So, tonight you get girl2’s tricycle.

  • Valentines Everywhere!

    When Girl1, Girl2 and The Bride came downstairs this morning, they each had a new plush animal, HUGE mylar balloon and box of chocolates.  We spent the entire day together at the Oklahoma Aquarium, the mall, and the bookstore/coffee shop.  Another perfect day.  The only way it could have been better would have been if Boy1 had come over.  Maybe we can all do it again sometime.  I got some nice sketches that aquarium, but I want to add color before I post them here.

    Speaking of color, tonight’s EDM challenge was to draw a fall leaf.  I really need to learn how to do shadows in pencil.  I desperately wanted to grab some red, yellow, orange, blue and purple so you could tell this was a FALL leaf!

  • I Scream!

    Tonight’s thing-a-day is brought to you by New Year’s Diet!  Nothing screams dessert quite like being on a diet.

    Actually, I just sketched this out while watching Cinderella with the girls and my lovely bride.  I made a blob of pink with my watercolors, and this is where it ended up.

    And tonight’s EDM challenge comes from Cinderella.  I was supposed to draw and eye, so during a “potty break” I drew hers.

  • Octopus's Garden

    Office supplies have always held a certain fascination for me.  Briefcases, planners, legal pads, stationery, pens… I love playing in the office supply stores.  The other day I was walking through Staples and found this really cool pen that switches from black ink to blue ink to red ink to pencil.  It came with an optional stylus, so I took out the red ink and now it is a stylus for my PDA!  I love this kind of stuff.  Yes… yes it is sad, I know.

    Anyway, the EDM challenge tonight was to draw something metallic.  PERFECT!

    While listening to my mp3 player on the ride home from work, Octopus’s Garden came up.  Giggling to myself, I immediately began planning for tonight’s thing-a-day.

  • Awaiting the Bath

    As I was sitting in my living room chair, brush and ink in hand, trying to decide what to draw, Girl2 comes bounding out buck nekid with a big pink balloon.  When I asked her what she was doing, she  breathlessly giggled, “Waiting for my bath.”

    Really, what can you say to that?  It makes perfect sense.  She just decided it was time to get ready to take a bath.  Then decided to kill the time waiting by playing with the balloon.  And it was one of those balloons almost as big as she is.

    The EDM challenge tonight was to draw something you collect.  I had to think a long time for this one.  At first, Girl1 and I decided that I mostly collect dust.  My lover pointed out that what I really collect is hobbies.
