    Daddy/Daughter Breakfast Sketches
We didn’t get our usual spot at the bar this week. However, our table gave me a neat view of the architecture surrounding the cash register.  As I don’t usually draw stuff like that, I thought I’d take a stab at it.  Girl2 was inspired to draw a bird with a worm.

    Fashion Maven
My little fashion maven loves the bright colors and the pink!  Everyone thinks this is adorable now. I used to get made fun of for wearing practically this same outfit in high school.  It was the ’80s.  It was in style then.

Daddy Daughter Breakfast Sketches 11FEB2012 After being at the studio for Midnight at Oasis until 3 am, I was NOT in the mood to be awake.  However, I am always in the mood to spend time with my little girl, especially for Daddy/Daughter breakfast.  It was more of a brunch this week as we didn’t get there until after 10. Girl2 was starving and ate all of her biscuits and gravy, her toast with jelly, one of my eggs, half of my hash browns, and half of the bacon! If you look carefully, you will notice that we were situated directly in front of the cinnamon roll tray. Le Wild Cinnamon Bun As we sat there staring at it, I just kept wondering if anyone would notice me scraping the “goodie” off the tray with my fork.  Yum!

We went to breakfast WICKED early this morning. My beautiful young bride had surgery earlier this week and we thought we’d get out and back before Boy2 woke up. That way my lover wouldn’t have to worry about trying to pick him up. The wife is not supposed to lift anything over 5 pounds and the boy is almost 30 lbs.

ANYWAY, being that early, we were the first patrons of the day. I think the cooks started cooking our “usual” before the waitresses even knew we were there.  It didn’t leave much time for sketching, but my grumbling stomach really appreciated it.  I think we’ll try to go that early every week and I’ll just learn to sketch faster.

    Daddy-Daughter breakfast sketches 21JAN2012

This week, the cafe was kind of slow. Not only did we get our favorite seats at the counter and got our food quickly, we also got the full and loving attention of all three waitresses.  I decided to sketch the paper towel dispenser and sink on the wall behind the counter.  That’s difficult when the waitresses all gather right there to lean over the counter and talk to us and watch us draw.  :)

sketches done at breakfastFriday nights I host an art party at the studio. We call it Midnight at Oasis.  Not only do a bunch of artists gather to art and snack, but we do a quick interview at midnight.  There will be another post about that. I tell you that so that you can see why it was 3 am when I got home from the studio this morning.  I set my alarm for 9.  My wife comes in at 8:30 and asks if I am going to breakfast with the little girl.  I quietly tell her that the alarm is set for 9.  Boy2 climbs up on the bed and snuggles down under the covers with me, saying, “hide hide”.  They play a round of peek-a-boo (he really is the WORST hider ever), while Girl2 snuggles under the covers behind me and reminds me it’s Daddy/Daughter Breakfast Day.  As if I would EVER forget that.  She sits on the edge of the bed and asks me if I’m ready to get up.  I quietly tell her that I will get up when the alarm goes off at 9. “Dad?”, she says, “Daddy, it’s 8:56… 8:57… Daddy, it’s 8:58… 8:59…” When the alarm goes off she starts giggling and tells me that it is OK for me to get up now.  Of course it is.  I wouldn’t miss this for the world.
