On the first Saturday of each month, the Houston Zoo hosts a Keepers’ Talk. That’s when they let the Zoo Members in an hour early to learn about different animals. This month the talk was about about the Gorilla Doctors who treat sick and injured wild gorillas. The gorillas don’t know they are helping so the doctors have to be creative in how they capture and treat them without losing the trust of the troupe. It was a pretty interesting talk, but it was all talk. I had more fun watching the crowd and the gorillas in the paddock. After, we went into the ape gallery and saw the chimps. They may have been acclimated to Houston, though, because several of them were wandering around outside in the 50°F weather wearing blankets.
