The toy on my desk is a zebra with no stripes, just etched grooves where the stripes should go. I decided to draw it as I see it and not as I think it should be.

The Random Object Randomogrifier rolled out a river horse this morning, better known as the hippo. I started the day arguing with myself about whether it’s a or an hippopotamus and decided life’s too short for grammar before coffee. Either way, the name fits because this creature’s a perfect mix of grace and danger, equal parts ballerina and tank.

The random object today is the American bison, commonly called a buffalo, and the challenge is real. The reference is almost completely black with a small brown patch on its back, so the trick is to shade and color without turning the whole thing into a black blob.
