Abraham Lincoln was a wrestler, tough enough to win nearly all his matches. It is said e competed in over 300 grappling matches with only one loss. Hank Thompson, the only man to win against him, held that bragging right.

Lincoln started small in Illinois politics before moving into Congress, where he pushed back against the Mexican-American War with his “Spot Resolutions,” demanding to know the exact spot where American blood had been shed. He worked as a lawyer, and even patented an invention to lift boats over river shoals, making him the only U.S. president with a patent. His law partner Herndon remembered him as a man who loved gadgets, always tinkering. He even crossed paths with inventors like Cyrus McCormick, who made the mechanical reaper.

We talked about the Lincoln-Douglas debates, where Lincoln lost the Senate race but gained a national audience, and we ended with the Emancipation Proclamation, which changed the purpose of the war. Someone in the chat asked about the Lincoln Continental, and yes, that car was named after him.
